What a wonderful and simple to understand breakdown of the digestive tract! Anyone who is suffering from gut dysfunction should read this book to gain a clear understanding of what is truly happening, and to identify the potential root causes.
Ada has done a great job of putting the important and often misunderstood information into a clear and concise read.
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this brilliant book. All opinions expressed are my own. I'm really impressed with this book. I'm a coeliac with other autoimmune diagnoses and have recently been advised that I may have SIBO.
Knowing very little about it, this book has now drastically increased my knowledge and I don't feel so overwhelmed anymore.
Aesthetically, the cover is a lovely colour and very eye catching. It was the first thing that drew me in so I think it will be great on the shelf!
Thank you again, from a happy reader!
"My Gut" has completely transformed the way I think about my digestive health. This book is a comprehensive guide to understanding gut issues and SIBO... The author's writing style is engaging and easy to follow, making complex concepts and medical jargon accessible to everyone...
What I love most about this book is that it offers actionable steps and strategies to improve gut health with an emphasis on the holistic approaches to healing.
Overall this book has truly been a game-changer for me, and I am grateful for the knowledge and tools it has provided me in my journey towards optimal health.
My Gut is an incredibly informative and engaging book that offers new insights into common digestive issues such as SIBO and IBS. The research and medical information presented in the book are exceptional and go beyond what most books in this area provide. Readers will find invaluable advice on how to understand the mind-body connection and improve their gut health.
What sets this book apart is the personal anecdotes shared by the author, which bring the information to life and offer an intimate perspective on how gut health affects our daily lives. Overall, My Gut is a must-read for anyone looking to gain a deeper insight into the complexity of digestive health. Highly recommended!
This book is incredibly helpful for people - like me - who have gastrointestinal problems such as IBS, SIBO or food intolerances. The author explains step by step how our digestive system works and how we digest food.
At the end of the book the readers will find some very useful diets. Highly recommended !!!
A wealth of information - this book has way more than you'll ever want to know about IBS! In fact, unless you have a gut condition, the book probably has too much information. I do not suffer from any bowel conditions but I used to get stressed related digestive issues so I thought this book would be a helpful read.
My favorite section was the "Dietary Considerations" chapter as I felt that this was the most useful section for medically normal people; it teaches you how food generally affects your digestion and what considerations all people can make to improve their digestion. I loved how much information was presented and how it was organized...
I will Definitely recommend! Very interesting and especially if you have digestive issues. So thankful for the ideas to help with stomach problems.
My Gut was an extremely thorough, yet easy to follow book about the gut and ways to restore its health. The author, Ada Peters, suffered with significant digestive issues herself and it was refreshing to read this knowledge from the point of view of someone who’s been there.
Along with a lesson on the parts and functions of the gut, there is a comprehensive walk through the numerous methods of healing. I’ve read a lot about the digestive system, and this is the one book that included all of these methods together without an agenda...
The book is easy to follow, full of useful tips, and gives hope to anyone dealing with ongoing gut troubles. It is a great read for anyone wanting to heal their gut.
This book felt like a conversation with someone who’s actually been through the gut health rollercoaster. If you’ve dealt with IBS or SIBO, you’ll probably find yourself nodding the whole time. It doesn’t pretend there’s one magic fix, but it does offer real insight and comfort.
Highly recommend if you care about your gut.
I liked how the author explains both medical and alternative treatments without being condescending. You can tell she’s been through it herself. It’s packed with info, but not overwhelming, and I kept finding myself highlighting tips I want to try.
Great for anyone who’s tired of feeling stuck and wants real guidance.
I've been dealing with IBS and suspected SIBO for years, and this book was exactly what I needed. It's written in a really down-to-earth and relatable way—like you're talking to someone who's been through it and actually gets it. The author doesn’t just throw medical jargon at you but explains things clearly and with compassion.
I especially appreciated the balance of personal experience and practical advice, from diet changes and testing options to how to talk to your doctor more effectively.
This book is an eye-opening meld of the author’s personal experiences struggling with gut distress, as well as the latest in scientific research. It thoroughly explores both the physical and the emotional impact of gut issues in a way that is easy to digest (no pun intended!) The author’s goal is to reduce the stress, confusion, and misinformation about gut-related issues, so that the reader can take control of their own health.
If you’re struggling with gut issues of any kind, particularly IBS or SIBO, this book provides all the information that you’ll need to make informed decisions and seek out a solution that will work for you!
What sets this book apart is its balance of scientific accuracy and personal narrative. Peters writes with empathy and clarity, creating a resource that feels both medically sound and emotionally supportive. Readers struggling with chronic digestive issues will find comfort in Peters’ own journey—marked by misdiagnoses, trial-and-error diets, and finally, empowerment through education and advocacy.
"My Gut" is an essential read for anyone navigating digestive health challenges, as well as for caregivers and practitioners seeking a more humanized perspective. Peters’ voice is one of compassion, resilience, and hard-won knowledge. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or years into your gut health journey, this book offers insight, validation, and hope.
I enjoyed Ms Peters' writing style, and she uses many analogies to paint visual pictures of her explanations, which are particularly helpful when delving into such topics as the action and interaction of various internal body parts and their functions.
When I first started reading this book I recommended it to my sister (who has far worse digestion issues than I do) and she said, “I've already got it, so thanks for reminding me to take some more time with it.” This is a book you can refer to and dip in and out of – although I have been reading it from the beginning and enjoying the way the topics are holistically linked
I was interested in this book due to the fact I myself have been suffering from IBS and stomach issues since having my Gallbladder out.
A lot of people are not aware of the link between the gut and brain and how stress can affect the gut, and the vicious cycle that can create. Reading this book made me feel like I am understood and there are more people like me out there that understand what I deal with.
There is a lot of information in it, over 240 pages. The time this can save for someone suffering from gut conditions is immense. I would recommend to anyone interested or suffering from gut health conditions.
Loved it. We all know all problems start with the gut. That's why I picked this book. I do not regret it one bit. Personal experiences and everything. I recommend greatly.
I have suffered from a chronic cough and bloating for many years. Chemical sensitivity such as perfumes, etc is the major contributor, but I found that certain foods were also to blame. Reading My Gut gave me a much greater understanding of my digestive issues. I now find that when my gut is happy, my cough is noticeably reduced.
The book is extremely informative and well written. I have learned things which I had not been told about during by numerous doctors' visits.
I was intrigued by "My Gut" and hoped it would provide insight into my persistent digestive issues. To my delight, Peters' detailed coverage of the gut exceeded my expectations. This book has emboldened me to approach my healthcare provider with more informed and specific questions, enabling a more focused investigation into the underlying causes of my condition.
Admittedly, the first two chapters on IBS and SIBO were overwhelming at first. However, they laid a solid foundation for the rest of the book. Overall, "My Gut" is an impressive resource that I plan to refer to frequently in the future. It undoubtedly deserves a five-star rating for its thoroughness and relevance.
Peters’ approach reminds me of works by Dr. Michael Mosley, particularly in her ability to take scientific research and weave it into a narrative that empowers readers.

Meet the Author
Hi, I’m Ada — a health and wellness author with a deep curiosity about the gut and how it affects every part of our well-being. For decades, I’ve lived with digestive issues that were frustrating, confusing, and often overlooked. Like many, I tried all the usual routes — diets, supplements, endless tests — but lasting relief always felt out of reach.
Instead of giving up, I began researching everything I could about gut health, from scientific studies to traditional medicine systems. What I discovered is that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution — our guts are as unique as we are. But there are solutions, patterns, tools, and even small shifts that can make a big difference in everyday life.
In my book My Gut: IBS, SIBO and Other Digestive Issues, I share what I’ve learned through years of lived experience and research. These insights can give you a sense of direction and remind you that you’re not alone in finding what works for your body.
Just to be clear: I don’t offer medical advice, and I’m not a practitioner. I’m what you might call an “expert patient” — someone who’s tried nearly everything and is here to share what’s actually helped, whether through my book or my newsletter.
These days, I spend as much time as I can in nature, reading research, and exploring wellness routines that feel nourishing — not punishing. I truly believe that healing starts when we begin listening to what our bodies have been trying to tell us all along.
